  • What is KALIKA Beeswax Food Wrap?
KALIKA Beeswax Food Wrap is an eco-friendly alternative (to plastic wrap) storage solution that helps keep your perishables fresh longer.
  • Why do I need a beeswax wrap?
If you're bothered by how much food you throw out, how much single-use plastic waste you contribute to, or both, then the beeswax wrap is for you. It’s a simple way to curb how much food waste and plastic you use in your kitchen. Plastic wrap does a terrible job at keeping your vegetables fresh; and it annoys turtles.
  • What do I use a beeswax wrap for?
Greens wilting or mushrooms drying out before you get the chance to use them? Halves of lemons, avocados, and apples rotting in corners of your fridge? A beeswax wrap can be a great way to reduce food waste. It is breathable so your food doesn’t sweat and it keeps its fresh longer. Give your fridge a quick skim and see which foods can get a second chance. These wraps are great to pack sandwiches and snacks in, too.
  • Is it reusable? How long does it last?
Absolutely! Our wraps are made to last and be loved unconditionally for as long as you're willing to stay loyal. With proper care, it typically lasts up to one to two years and can be re-waxed, or simply sent to your compost bin once it’s no longer sticky.
  • What is it made of?
We use 100% natural ingredients to make our wraps, by hand! We begin by pre-cutting our purposefully measured woven cotton fabric to size, and then infusing the fabric in a special blend of Sumatran jungle wild forest beeswax, tree resin and coconut oil.
  • Why does it smell?
Take a deep breath, that is the natural smell of unrefined wild forest beeswax! Our beeswax has a stronger honey smell because it is naturally harvested beeswax as opposed to commercially farmed beeswax which has a much milder smell.
  • Why is it sticky?
Our beeswax blend is designed to cling to and create a seal around the object you are covering with ease. The stickiness is activated using the warmth of your hands as you create that seal. However, when the wrap is left in to cool down to ambient temperature, it isn’t very sticky anymore.
  • Is it hygienic?
The beeswax and tree resin have antibacterial properties so it’s tough for microbes to live within the waxy layer. However, if you have leftover food bits left on the surface of the wrap, it may rot and damage your wrap. That’s why it’s best to care for your wrap by cleaning right after use. Let air-dry before storing it away as germs love nothing more than a damp environment. If you live in a high humidity area, a good trick is to store your wraps in the fridge when not currently in use.
  • What to wrap and what not to wrap?
Wrap: Greens of any kind (leafy and stalky), aged cheese quarters, aromatics, herbs, breadloaf, mushrooms, fruit and veggie halves. Do not wrap raw meats (beef, chicken, turkey etc.), fresh fish, hot foods and any liquids. Read more tips here.
  • What sizes are available?
S, M, L, and XL are available. Additionally, there is also the bread wrap and our unpaper bag. As all our fabrics are hand cut, sizes may vary a tiny bit. S (20 cm x 20 cm) Halves of fruit, cheese quarters, pack on-the-go snacks etc. M (30 cm x 30 cm) Sandwiches, salad leaves, halves of larger fruit etc. L (34 cm x 40 cm) Bundles of spinach, leafy herbs, spring onions etc. XL (55 cm x 50cm) Group your vegetable types, cover large casseroles etc. Bread (35 cm x 50 cm) Use this exclusively for your breadloaf, baguette and buns. Bag (22 cm x 6.5 cm x 20 cm) Perfect for small, loose items like mushrooms or green beans.
  • How do I take care of a beeswax wrap?
Remember our nifty mnemonic: WRAP! Wipe it with a clean dish towel or wash in cool water without any soap. Remove grease by adding some mildly soapy water and gently clean with your fingers. Avoid actions that excessively manipulate the wrap, hot water and strong dish soap. P lace it to air dry before reusing.
  • Can I use my beeswax wrap in the microwave?
Definitely not. Microwaves will melt down the waxy layer and render your beeswax wrap into a hot mess. Avoid at all costs.
  • Where can I store my beeswax wrap?
When not in use, you can store it inside your dry cabinet, on the counter, or in the fridge (especially if you live in high humidity areas). Remember to always keep your KALIKA away from heat and direct sunlight!
  • Can I use KALIKA in the fridge or freezer?
Yes, simply wrap your food item to create a tight seal and keep it either in your fridge or freezer.
